Can I link to the electronic journal articles in the GBC database?

Answer

Yes, you are free to create a direct link yourself or you may contact your liaison librarian  who can help link to the content available in the library databases.

If there was an article you wanted to use that was available in the library databases, your librarian can show you how to create a permanent link to that content and how to use the library databases to generate citations: http://www.georgebrown.ca/uploadedFiles/GBCLLC/Pages/Home_Page/Study_Tools/How%20to%20Create%20Persistent%20Links.pdf.

Linking to items in library databases using a persistent link is a copyright friendly, legal alternative to scanning material under copyright or sharing a PDF version with your students, which mayrequire permission from the copyright holder. Please feel free to check the library resources, using “Search Everything” first, to determine whether or not the content (articles, ebooks, etc) is available through the GBC LLC http://www.georgebrown.ca/llc/ as this is the best way to make resources available for online courses.

For content not provided through the library databases, copyright clearance will need to be considered please check the fair dealing guidelines to see if the materials can be scanned and uploaded, with proper citations, to Blackboard or your course’s learning management system. There are details posted here: http://copyright.georgebrown.ca/a.php?qid=542943 and copyrighthelp@georgebrown.ca  can provide any further details on copyright as needed.

If you need technical assistance uploading the resources, please feel free to Email the Blackboard Faculty Helpdesk at bbfaculty@georgebrown.ca or call the Blackboard Helpline 416.415.5000 ext. 2285.
